Biography
Sunil Suwal is a Nepalese architect, researcher, and academic specializing in BIM, digital construction, and engineering education. He is currently a Lecturer at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, where he is also pursuing PhD studies at Aalto University, focusing on BIM-based engineering education. He holds a Master’s in Construction and Real Estate Management from HTW Berlin and Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Khwopa Engineering College, Nepal.
With over a decade of experience in academia and research, Sunil has contributed significantly to BIM education and digital construction. He has held positions as a Senior Lecturer at Metropolia and a researcher at Aalto University, where his work has explored BIM’s role in energy efficiency, digital competency frameworks, and virtual learning environments. He has also been involved in various European research projects, including Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+.
In addition to his academic roles, Sunil plays a key role in international BIM standardization. He is a member of CEN 442/WG8, the European Committee for Standardization in BIM, and a core member of buildingSMART Finland’s Knowledge and Change Management Group. Sunil is the Chairperson of Nepal BIM Forum Ry and Head Architect at Forefront Engineering in Nepal, where he continues to drive sustainable design and digital transformation in architecture and construction.
