Training on Earthquake-Resistant Design and BIM Integration using NBC 105:2020

Training Objectives

With the introduction and revision of NBC 105: Seismic Design of Buildings in Nepal, it has become increasingly important for Nepali engineers to understand and utilize the Nepal Building Code (NBC) to design resilient structures. This course introduces earthquake-resistant design and analysis based on NBC 105: 2020 standards. Participants will learn fundamental concepts of earthquake-resistant design, including material properties, load calculations, and structural analysis techniques. Additionally, the training will cover the basics of integrating structural analysis with BIM platforms, ensuring engineers can effectively use BIM for enhanced design, and coordination.

Content of the Course

1. Earthquake Resistant Design and a few Basic Concepts

2. Installation of Software and Introduction of tools and interface

3. Structural Modeling of building

  • Definition of Material Properties (Characteristic Strength)
  • Definition of Section Properties and modifiers

4. Assigning loads to the buildings

  • Vertical Load Calculation (Dead Load, Live Load)
  • Earthquake Load Calculation (Static and Dynamic analysis): Calculation of base shear, load pattern, and load combinations

5. Analysis of Building

  • Modal analysis results
  • Dual System check

6. Performance Check
